Getting into employment

What job do I want?

You will spend most of the rest of your life working – so this is a question well worth taking some time over.

Think about what you enjoy doing, about what makes you happy, and about what you are good at. This will give you a starting point.

Don’t forget though, whatever you do, it is ultimately your attitude to your job that will decide on how happy you are in it.

Whatever you do for work, be the best at it you can be and you will have a sense of pride that will make sure you always have a bounce in your step.

The National Careers Service is a good place to start your search or if you're in Scotland check out My World of Work.

The Learning and Work Institute has created a website called Skills Support for care leavers, setting out the different learning, training and employment options available to you. They have also published a free book on these topics called the Really Useful Book of Learning and Earning for Care Leavers.
