Christians Against Poverty – A national debt counselling charity offering support to anyone in debt. Call 0800 328 0006 or visit capuk.org

Consumer Credit Counselling Service – provides free and confidential counselling on debt problems. Call 0800 138 1111 or go to cccs.co.uk

Community Legal Advice – free help or legal advice over the phone to people who qualify for legal aid. They can help with debt, housing, education, employment, tax credits and benefits. Call 0845 345 4 345

Payplan – provides free advice on debt and budgeting. Call 0800 280 2816 or go to payplan.com

Some local authorities also provide free debt counselling so it’s worth finding out if yours does.
