Professor Sonia Jackson OBE

Sonia Jackson OBE is Emeritus Professor of Social Studies and Education at The Institute of Education. Sonia worked as a clinical psychologist, teacher and social worker before becoming a senior lecturer in social work at the University of Bristol and Professor of Applied Social Studies at the University of Wales Swansea.

Her research has included teenage pregnancy, private foster care and boarding education for vulnerable children. Her five year study of children in care going to university prompted her most recent research exploring why young people in care tend to drop out of education earlier than their peers.
