Training Officer
What do you do at Become?
I am one of the Training Officers at Become. I am responsible for delivering both in-person and online training to a variety of organisations, including local authorities, Universities, and other charities. I also deliver training to cohorts of Personal Advisers delivering alongside our team of Young Trainers, as well as supporting the Training team to create new content.
Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications?
Having graduated from University with a degree in Third World Development Studies and then realising I couldn’t get a job saving the world, I decided to join the police as a civilian, working in Police Custody. After several years with the Police, I retrained and qualified as an EFL teacher and went to Germany to teach English. I then returned to the UK and have worked in the youth and charity sectors ever since, working in schools delivering employability sessions, delivering residential youth programmes, and more latterly managing a team of volunteers to provide mentoring to care experienced young people.
What do you like about working at Become?
I really enjoy being part of a team that are so passionate and knowledgeable about the work we do. Everyone is motivated to be better and do more, and I see that every day in the training we receive as well as the work we deliver to others. It is such a friendly, welcoming organisation who put young people at the heart, and I am so fortunate to be a part of it.
What drives you?
I am driven to make a positive impact on the lives of others, particularly young people but also the professionals we train who support young people. Having worked in prisons, I have seen how powerful it can be to be the person that someone turns to for support, who asks questions about their future, and I am driven to continue being part of a team that makes a difference.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I have recently started boxing and strength training which I thoroughly enjoy. Having 2 young children who still want to be carried, this strength training has become a bit of a necessity! I also play netball, but don’t be fooled by all this fitness – I am a complete chocoholic and trash TV is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.
