Katy Hudson (She/Her)

Training & Development Manager

What do you do at Become? As the Training & Development Manager, my role is to listen to the voices of care experienced young people and co-create training packages that will improve the skills and knowledge of carers and professionals. My overall aim is to enhance practice so that children in care and care leavers receive the best support possible.  We also offer consultancy to organisations, making sure that the opinions and experiences of young people are at the heart of their processes.

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications? I have 25-years experience in work with children and young people, predominantly in the education sector.  I spent my early career in schools as a teacher and then project managed several programmes under the ‘Narrowing The Gap’ and ‘Inclusion’ agenda for local authorities.  I moved into Virtual School work in 2013 and became directly involved in supporting the education pathways of care experienced children and young adults. The professional development and training of the professionals and carers working around young people has always been a key aspect of my work.  I joined Become as the Training & Development Manager in early 2021.

What do you like about working at Become? Become keeps young people at the centre of every aspect of its work.  It’s exciting to work for an organisation that supports young people directly and is proactive in striving to enhance practice, challenge the system and change attitudes for the better.

What drives you? Seeing young people overcome difficult situations to achieve their potential.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? I love being out in the open air and enjoy walking, running and cycling.  I also enjoy pottering in the garden, reading and watching crime dramas.
