What do you do in your role as trustee at Become?
As a trustee, I ensure that Become is fulfilling its obligations and achieving its strategic goals. I help to provide direction, advice and raise challenge where necessary. I also use my relevant expertise and experience to help accelerate the realisation of their goals.
Can you say a bit about your relevant experience and qualifications?
My relevant experience is in strategy definition and delivery and also in digital transformation. My day job involves prioritising the investments we make to ensure they are aligned to our strategy. I work for a global energy corporation where I’ve been for the last 7 years. Prior to this, I worked for about 7 years as a digital architect and project portfolio specialist where I delivered large complex programmes in government, private and charitable organisations. One relevant project was around delivering the 14-19 year strategic agenda at the then Department for Children, Schools and Families. This brought me close to understanding how national strategy is developed and implemented in the young people area.
What do you like about being a trustee at Become?
The ability to positively influence the outcomes of young care leavers by using my skills and experience to help shape and direct strategy.
What drives you?
Helping others make the most of what they have. I think that we are all uniquely gifted and I love helping people identify and develop these gifts.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I like to go out for walks with my family, my wife and I have a 5-year-old son, and we can never seem to satisfy his boundless energy! I also enjoy cycling and reading – I tend to have at least one non-fiction/autobiography and one fantasy or action novel in rotation.
