Shakira Henry (She/Her)

Services Manager

What do you do at Become? I am the Services Manager who manages the services team within their roles of Advice and Support Officers and Support and engagement officers. I am also the DSO and work closely with the Services Director.

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications? Following studying a BA Hons in Arts and Humanities, I embarked on her career in youth work by facilitating Creative and Theatre programs with young people from marginalised communities. This started a journey that spans 18 years of extensive training in various aspects of Health and Social Care and direct work with young people in the social care sector. Through various roles in this sector, I have been able to be effective in supporting young people by providing positive guidance, assistance with personal development, safeguarding and advocacy.

Additionally, I am a qualified Young Persons Violence Advisor (YPVA) and have been specifically trained to support young people at high risk of serious harm from domestic abuse.

What do you like about working at Become? Become has a fabulous team that has an ethos that is aligned with the aims, objectives, and values of the charity. I feel welcomed and valued within the organisation which is amazing!

What drives you? To make a difference whenever possible and be instrumental in amplifying the voices of those that have not benefitted from every opportunity that should be available to all.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? I am a social butterfly, I love entertaining, pulling out all of the ‘bells and whistles’ and generally being extravagant in absolutely everything I do.
