Sophie Jones (She/Her)

Trust Fundraising Manager

What do you do at Become? I work with charitable trusts and foundations that choose to support care-experienced children and young people by making grants toward our work. This generally means lots of writing! But also talking to and meeting with foundation trustees and staff to talk about how we can work together to make a difference for children and young people.

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications? I’ve been a Trust Fundraiser for over three years – previously for a large, national charity. Before that, I worked in bid writing – applying for contracts from government and local authorities – for a charity supporting vulnerable people across London and the South East. My first job out of university was as a support worker for young people experiencing homelessness, and I’m really pleased to be back in a charity working with young people.

What do you like about working at Become? The team is really lovely and their passion for and commitment to improving the lives of care-experienced young people is really clear. I also enjoy the camaraderie of working in a small organisation.

What drives you? Integrity, empathy, justice and open-mindedness.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Singing classical music in my local choir; swimming and running; reading; cooking, eating (and thinking about food); and gardening – I’m lucky enough to have a small garden so am learning to grow my own food and flowers. I get inordinately excited by a visit to a garden centre!
