Geri Cowell (She/Her)

Philanthropy and Partnerships Manager

What do you do at Become? I work with individuals and all sizes of companies to fundraise in a mutually strategic way.  It is so exhilarating to see the impact had both on those working with us and on our work with care-experienced young people. The passion from our supporters about what we do is so motivating every day and I am so thankful for their support.

Can you say a bit about your past experience and qualifications? I have worked in outreach in the heritage sector after an undergraduate degree in Archaeology before moving into fundraising. I have loved working with people to raise funds for various causes in different fun ways. From spending my birthday weekend dressed as Santa fishing with 100 others to big dinners to working with school groups in large challenges I have enjoyed every moment. One funny memory I have is of discussing with a CEO of a company about the future partnership and updates from the charity while on a fairground ride! It is so empowering to see others develop through fundraising, from new skills, enhance confidence and improve staff morale. I have also achieved my Certificate in Fundraising from the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.

What do you like about working at Become? What don’t I like?! A cause which is so important to me and it is such a treat to work with such passionate people in such an empowering environment.

What drives you? Positivity, empowerment and making the world a better place.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? I enjoy walks and agility with my dogs. I also normally enjoy attending dance classes- balboa and lindy hop and vintage events. I have really missed this during lockdowns so have spent time learning more about Ancient Egypt, hieroglyphics and Arabic.
