External Clinical Supervisor
We are seeking an external clinical supervisor to deliver individual and group clinical supervision to members of our Services Team.
About Become
Become is the national charity for children in care and young care leavers. We put young people at the heart of everything we do, helping them be powerful agents of change in their own lives, the care system and society. We help them understand their rights and entitlements so they can get the support they need now, develop their skills, access education, and overcome challenges they face. We amplify young people’s voices and empower them to speak out and campaign for change, so that the care system works better for all children and young people, now and into the future.
Importance of Clinical Supervision & Reflective Practice spaces
Our Services team support and work alongside care experienced children and young people in a range of professional roles. At times, young people are in crisis, struggling to secure the support they are entitled to, and to influence decision-making among professionals in their lives. Many have experienced trauma and instability before and during their journey through a complicated care system.
We recognise the emotional impact that our direct work can have on our team, the risk of vicarious trauma, and the particular impact the work can have for our care experienced colleagues. We take seriously our duty to support staff through the provision of external clinical supervision, and recognise that staff wellbeing, reflection and emotional resilience enable our team to deliver the best possible support to children and young people we support.
What we’re looking for
We are seeking an experienced, qualified, Clinical Supervisor to deliver online:
- individual clinical supervision at once every two months to 6 staff in our Services Team and another colleague working directly with young people
- group reflective practice once per month to 6 staff in our Services Team
Expertise in trauma is essential. We understand that different aspects of our identities intersect to influence our experiences and barriers we face, and those of the young people we support, and therefore particularly invite expressions of interest from those with lived experience of the care system, from Black and minoritized communities, with disabilities or who identify as LGBTQ+.
The aim of clinical supervision and group reflective practice provided will be to:
- provide a safe space to reflect on the emotional impact of our work with care experienced young people
- provide theoretical perspectives, and explore how these help us make sense of our work and its impact
- enable reflection on how our values and own experiences may shape our approach and how we feel
- identify coping strategies where our work is impacting our emotional health and wellbeing
- enable peer support among our team (group)
- NB: it does not replace internal management supervision. Where clinical supervision identifies an alternative approach to direct work with a young person, this will be brought to internal supervision to ensure oversight and accountability for our practice internally.
Fees
As a charity, we have recently paid £40 per hour for clinical supervision provided. Please indicate what your hourly rate would be when you express interest.
Confidentiality and safeguarding
Clinical supervision will be a confidential and safe space for those participating. The only exceptions to this will be:
- Where the Clinical Supervisor is concerned about the safety of a child /vulnerable adult (safeguarding)
- A summary of themes from group clinical supervision will be shared every 6 months – these will be broad, rather than specific to individuals. The purpose is to enable organizational support to address any challenges or issues experienced by our team.
To express your interest:
Please email Chloe Grant, Director of Services, by close of play on Monday 28th October 2024, outlining your suitability for the role based on the above information (no more than 1 side of A4), and detailing when you could start and your hourly rate.
