Beginners' Guide to Care

Anyone new to a role that may bring you into contact with care experienced young people e.g.

  • Medical Practitioners
  • Prison Officers
  • Third Sector Workers
  • Hostel Support Workers
  • Helpline Staff
  • Volunteers on projects relating to care-experienced young people.

What’s it about?

This training event explores the experiences, behaviours and specific needs of children and young people in care.  By the end of this session, participants will understand the needs of care-experienced children and young people, be able to recognise barriers and differentiate to effectively support them.

Course participants will learn about:

  • Key legislation and the journey through care
  • Trauma and attachment
  • The effects of a disruptive childhood and education
  • Differentiating the needs of care-experienced children and young people
  • Networks and signposting and additional sources of support.

How is the course delivered?

  • Face-to-face at your organisation’s venue: 6 guided learning hours/full day 
  • Online: 2 x 3 hour sessions split over 2 days or abridged version – 4.5 hours 

How much does it cost?

  • Face-to-face: Group booking £995 + VAT (+ travel expenses for face-to-face) 
  • Online: 6 hour full course £995 + VAT 
  • Online: 4.5 hour abridged course £750 + VAT
