Help us be Here Whatever happens

Becca, our Advice and Support Officer, shares her experiences of working on the Care Advice Line over the past 12 months

Calls to our Care Advice helpline have doubled since the pandemic began. Read Becca's story of answering these calls for help from children in care and young care leavers over the past 12 months, and if you can, please donate so we can continue to be here for young people, whatever happens.

To me, working on our Care Advice Line means providing a listening space for care-experienced young people, it means practical support, and it means givingyoung people information so they can have a say in their own lives."

"I answer calls on Become’s Care Advice Line from young care-experienced people. I’ve listened to their experiences and I’ve heard their challenges increase in quantity and complexity because of the pandemic.

I think we can all relate to the feelings of isolation that have come with being unable to see our friends and loved ones. These experiences can be more acute for young people; amplifying challenges that already existed as well as creating a range of new ones."

"These challenges will persist beyond lockdowns which is why I’ll still be here supporting young care-experienced people. I believe every call with someone who has experienced adversity and trauma can be an opportunity for healing and growth and we strive to provide that opportunity for every young person we work with."

Since the pandemic began, Becca and our team have answered 714 calls for help.

Could you help ensure more care-experienced young people have someone to turn to? Giving £25 has the power to make sure that we can be here for young people, whatever happens.
