Katharine Sacks-Jones appointed new Chief Executive for Become
Become announces new CEO to join the charity in July
Become, the charity for children in care and young care leavers, has appointed Katharine Sacks-Jones to lead the organisation starting mid-July.
Katharine brings with her a wealth of experience spanning policy, campaigns and public affairs. Currently CEO for the charity Agenda, Katharine has a track record of influencing political and media agendas and bringing about change for marginalised groups.
Hugh Thornbery, Chair of Trustees for Become, said: “The Trustees of Become are delighted that Katharine Sacks-Jones will be joining us as our new Chief Executive. Katharine has a distinguished career challenging disadvantage and is passionate about improving the prospects and outcomes for children in care and those leaving care.
“Katharine joins Become at an exciting time for us as we deliver our new five year strategy. It is also a time when those tasked to deliver high quality public care for children face enormous pressures from the combined impact of record numbers of children in public care and unprecedented cuts to essential services.”
On taking on the new role, Katharine stated: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Become, an organisation with a track record in supporting care experienced children and young people and working to get their voices and views heard.
“Whilst there are many amazing and committed people involved in the care system, too many young people are being failed and not given the support and stability they need to build happy and fulfilling futures. It cannot be right that a disproportionate number of children who have been in care go on to face hardship in adulthood.
“I look forward to working with staff, trustees, partners and most importantly children and young people themselves to challenge this and to achieve a care system which gives all care experienced young people a fair start in life.”
