Speaking at the Violence Reduction Unit
For part of our #GoneTooFar campaign, we recently spoke at the London’s Violence Reduction Unit.
On 27 September, Kane, a campaigner from our Gone Too Far group, spoke at the London’s Violence Reduction Unit event. The event aimed to find ways to support foster and kinship carers so that children in care can have stable and nurturing homes across London.
Kane, Jo, and Will talked about how moving children far away from the people and places they love affects their well-being and relationships.
The people listening were from foster care organisations including foster carers, London boroughs, and other support organisations. The discussions were useful for thinking about what needs to happen to support everyone in the system, how we need to support foster carers when there is contact with the police and how to keep children in safe and stable homes.
Speaking at events like this helps more people to hear the messages of care-experienced young people, understand the real impacts of moves, and think about what they can do to help.
After the event, we enjoyed a ride on the cable cars over the Thames and some sightseeing. We will continue to find opportunities to speak about Gone Too Far in more spaces!
