Whether you’d like to make a philanthropic gift as an individual or give through a trust or foundation, you can make a real difference to the lives of care-experienced young people.
Young people in care have their whole lives ahead of them and their potential is limitless. But they often have to grow up fast and deal with a lot. The system can knock them down, it can make them feel minimised and unheard. We help them get on their feet again. Because this is just the beginning of what they can become.
Why Become?
Become exists because children in care and young care leavers do not have the same chances and opportunities as other young people. There are complex systemic issues contributing to this and there is also often the simple fact that children and young people are not listened to in the decisions being made about their own lives.
We focus on both responding to the immediate needs of children and young people and on systemic change so that every child in care gets what they need to heal from the trauma they’ve experienced, grow into independent adults, and live the life they want for themselves.
For 30 years, we’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with children in care and young care leavers. We help them to make sense of the care system when they’re in it, and to understand their options and support them when it’s time to leave. They help us understand what it means to experience adversity in childhood, and most importantly, how to live their lives to the full after it.
