School Fundraising

Are you involved in a school, youth group, or university, and looking to support Become and raise awareness of the care experience? Scroll for information, fundraising ideas, PSHE activities, our training offer and more.

What is Become Aware Together?

We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with care-experienced young people. We offer training to teachers and professionals to help you provide your best care and equip schools with resources to raise awareness of the care experience, breaking down stigma.

We’re able to provide free training to staff from schools who hold a fundraising ‘Become Aware Together’ event. We want this to be as accessible and easy as it can be.

Join us by holding a fundraising event at your school or college.

Host fundraising day at your school

Raise awareness and break down stigma, whilst helping to fund our work with children in care and young care leavers.

One of the easiest ways to fundraise is to invite pupils and staff to dress down and wear something pink or purple for the Become Aware Together day, asking those who take part to make a small donation if they can.

We want this to be as accessible as possible – pupils can wear as much or as little pink or purple as they like. Whether they go all out, head to toe, or just wear a small amount of face paint or a sticker, the aim of the day is to raise awareness and donations.

Add to the excitement by hosting a bake sale at the school, themed with pink & purple bakes. Everyone loves cake and it can be an engaging way to get the whole school involved whilst raising awareness.

Resources and Training

Your school or community group will get access to tailored training sessions from our expert Training Team on supporting your students who have experience of care (and all pupil premium children and young people), and ready-made PSHE activities & resources to equip teachers to introduce what it means to be care-experienced, educating all pupils and developing kindness and compassion.

This is a brand new fundraising & awareness campaign and we’re looking for partner schools to help us build it.

Why Become?

In England alone, 82,170 children were in care as at 31st March 2022.

We’re the national charity for children in care and young care leavers, and we believe that everyone who spends time in care should have an equal chance to lead a happy and fulfilling life.

The care system has the potential to change a child’s life for the better but it is currently failing too many. Behind the statistics are young people who don’t have the support and guidance young people need to realise their potential.

Our vision is that by raising awareness of the care experience within schools, and providing training and resources to teachers and staff to engage and educate students around this topic, young people in care will feel supported to reach their potential.

You are a vital person in that child’s life and can make a transformational difference - so make it a positive one.
