Announcing our new Interim CEO, Victoria Langer
We are pleased to announce our Interim Chief Executive has been appointed. Whilst Katharine Sacks-Jones takes maternity leave in 2021, Victoria Langer will join the team to ensure we deliver our mission of helping children in care and young care leavers.
Victoria is passionate about the rights of children and young people and has spent much of her career campaigning around these issues. This has included time as the Strategy Director for Save the Children UK, and a decade at the National Union of Students (NUS) in policy and political strategy. Victoria joins Become from the Exeter University Guild of Students, where she has been interim CEO since May 2020.
Announcing the appointment, Katharine Sacks-Jones, Chief Executive said:
“We are thrilled to appoint Vic as interim Chief Executive. With considerable experience in the not-for-profit sector, a passion for campaigning for better outcomes for children and young people and a complete alignment with Become’s values, particularly around meaningfully involving care experienced young people in all that we do, I know that Become will benefit from Vic’s excellent leadership during my maternity leave. “
Incoming Interim Chief Executive, Victoria Langer said:
“I am very excited to be spending the year ahead with Become and feel privileged to be stepping in for Katharine whilst she goes off on maternity leave. With the long-awaited review of the care system expected to start imminently, it’s going to be vital that the voices of care–experienced children and young people are at the front and centre of transforming the system. I’m looking forward to working with the team at Become to ensure that the organisation continues to deliver impact throughout 2021.”
Become’s Chair of Trustees, Hugh Thornbery, said:
“On behalf of the Board, we are delighted to welcome Vic to Become. We have complete confidence she will lead our organisation brilliantly while Katharine enjoys maternity leave and look forward to working with her as we continue with our 5-year strategy.”
We look forward to welcoming Victoria to Become in the New Year, where she’ll undertake a handover period before Katharine takes maternity leave until Autumn 2021.
