Katharine Sacks-Jones, Chief Executive of Become, comments on children and young people in care being placed in illegal accommodation.
Katharine Sacks-Jones, Chief Executive of Become – the national charity for children in care and care leavers – comments on children and young people in care being placed in illegal accommodation:
“The increase in reports of young people being placed in illegal and unsafe accommodation such as caravans, tents and hotel rooms is shocking and demonstrates the level of pressure the care system is facing.
“Children are being let down by a system that should be there to care for them and keep them safe.
“It is vital that funding is made available to help councils adequately look after children. We also need Government to deliver on their manifesto commitment and undertake a comprehensive review of the care system without delay before more young people are put at risk.”
