Become welcomes Clare Bracey as new Director of Policy, Campaigns and Communications
Become, the charity for children in care and young care leavers, has announced Clare Bracey as the organisation’s new Director of Policy, Campaigns and Communications.
Clare will bring her extensive experience in campaigning and influencing, and her strategic leadership and systems thinking skills, to Become as the organisation continues to work alongside care-experienced young people to radically improve the care system and the life experiences of children in care and young care leavers.
“With the opportunity for systemic change offered by the independent review of children’s social care, joining Become in this role, at this time, and empowering and supporting care experienced children and young people to advocate for the changes they want to see is an incredible privilege” stated Clare Bracey. “I share Become’s genuine commitment to listen to care experienced children and young people and ensure their voices are heard and their rights are upheld. I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with young people and their allies to make a positive difference.”
Clare brings twenty-five years’ experience working in the charity sector at a local, national, and international level, successfully delivering campaigns to change legislation, policy, and practice, along with a background in developing activist and capacity building programmes that promote a culture of learning, reflection, and growth. Before joining Become, Clare spent over 17 years at Amnesty International UK in a variety of campaigning and activism roles, and more recently was the Director of Campaigns and Youth Engagement at The Children’s Society.
Katharine Sacks-Jones, CEO at Become, says:
“I’m delighted to welcome Clare to the Become team as we continue with our bold five-year strategy, challenging structural inequalities around the care experience and amplifying the voices of young people to influence positive change.”
