Training course: An Introduction to Understanding the Impact of Trauma and How to Support

What’s it about?

This training event gives insight into potential lived experiences of young people before care, living as a child in the care system, and leaving care at 18.  We provide an overview of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and trauma and the potential impact on health and wellbeing, before moving into an exploration of some of the key principles of trauma informed practice. By the end of the session, participants will have had the opportunity to reflect on their practice in relation to care experienced young people and start to develop trauma informed strategies for their ongoing work. 

Course Participants will learn about: 

  • The lived experiences of care 
  • The potential impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and trauma  
  • Trauma informed principles 
  • Using trauma informed strategies when working alongside care-experienced young people
