Celebrating the success of The Big Half 2022

We want to say a huge thank you to our 70 runners who took on London's Big Half Marathon 2022!

On 4 September, 70 incredible Become supporters travelled to Tower Bridge in London to take on one of the UK’s best half marathons, The Big Half

Our team was made up of inspiring care-experienced people, care sector professionals, teachers, and allies to our cause. It was amazing to see everyone building each other up and motivating one another around the course.

We were absolutely blown away by our runners’ support. The 13.1 mile route saw a sea of pink Become running tops heading towards the finish line.

We want to thank each of our runners for taking part and fundraising in such an exciting and inspiring way.

Race-day!

The day itself saw our Become runners gather together at the start line, offering tips, sharing their motivations for fundraising for us and fostering a wonderful sense of belonging and shared purpose.

At Mile 11, our Become Cheer Team was out in full force; with whistles, drums, sweets and a boom box. We hope our cheer point acted as a much-needed pick-me-up for for the runners as they neared the end of their epic run.

The atmosphere was emotional and electric, and the smiles from the runners as they ran past was truly memorable.

Once over that finish line, it was fantastic to welcome so many of our runners to our post-race reception. A chance to celebrate and relax, there was a buffet, sports massages, and a space to speak to fellow runners and our team about the impact of the donations raised.

Why was this important?

Our runners have so far raised an incredible £12,038. This will help fund our crucial campaigning and direct services for children in care and young care leavers.

Every pound raised will help to ensure that there is someone at the end of the phone when a young person calls for help, that there is a community they can join, and that the voices of care-experienced young people are amplified and united to bring about the change they want to see in and around the care system.

Thanks to all our Big Half runners for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with children in care and young care leavers.

"Having spent most of my life in care, being part of this Big Half really gave me a sense of belonging. Thank you."

A huge thank you to our fantastic runners.
