Every young person needs stability, support and love to grow positively into adulthood, but there’s a crisis in the availability of suitable homes for children in care, and that’s having a harmful impact on care-experienced young people.
Children are taken into care when it’s not safe for them to stay at home. Whatever a young person has dealt with beforehand, being taken into care is itself traumatic. Many young people are moved miles from everything they know, creating feelings of isolation and loneliness.
“After leaving care, I felt really isolated and lonely. I was thrown into the world on my own and no-one cared about me.”
Many young people come through the care system and flourish, but far too many don’t get the stability, care and support they need to heal and thrive.
